Board of Directors

Pushpendu Banerjee, MD

Dr. Banerjee is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology,  practicing in La Jolla since 1997.  He is an active member of the American Societies of Hematology and Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Physicians, and the National Association of Inpatient Physicians, as well as the American Medical Society.  Dr. Banerjee is currently part of POHA and is a consultant at the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla where he sees a variety of hematological and malignant conditions. He is currently a physician with cCare Physicians, practicing in La Jolla.  Dr. Banerjee is the Chairman of the Board for the XiMED Medical Group Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Board for the Health Excel IPA Board of Directors.  He also serves on the XiMED Hospitalists Board of Directors.

Dalforno
Victor Dalforno, MD

Dr. Victor M. Dalforno is a practicing Pediatrician in Oceanside, CA. Dr. Dalforno graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1969 and has been in practice for 48 years. He completed his residency at  the United States Naval Medical Center. Dr. Dalforno also specializes in Adolescent Medicine. He currently practices at Waring Court Pediatrics & Adult Medical Group and is affiliated with Tri-City Medical Center.

Gene Ma, M.D.

Dr. Gene Ma is a critical care specialist in Oceanside, California. He is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Ma received his medical degree from University of California San Francisco School of Medicine.  He completed his internship at the Stanford School of Medicine, and his residency at the University of California, San Diego.  In 2012, he became executive director of Tri-City Emergency Medical Group and WorkPartners.  Dr. Ma served as Chief of Staff of Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside from 2015-2016.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

 
Michael Martin, M.D.

Dr. Martin graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1984.  He received his Board Certification in Anesthesiology in 1989.  Dr. Martin completed his residency at Legacy Emmanuel Hospital/Health Center in 1985, and his Residency at University of California San Diego.  He is currently practicing with Anesthesiology Medical Group, but was also the ASMG President from 1994-1998. Dr. Martin also served on the ASMG Board of Directors from 1993-2004, and served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla from 2012-2016.  Dr. Martin joined the Health Excel Board of Directors in 2018.

 
Sedwitz_Marc
Marc Sedwitz, M.D.

Dr. Sedwitz has been on staff at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla since 1988, and was Chief of Staff January 2010 through December 2012.  He is an active member of the SMH-LJ trauma team, and has served on many committees, including General Surgery Section, Quality Resource Management, and Rehabilitation.  Dr. Sedwitz serves as the Chairman of the Board for the XiMED Medical Group Board of Directors (since 2011), and has been a member since 2008. Dr. Sedwitz’s interests encompass general, vascular, and trauma surgery.  Dr. Sedwitz played a critical and fundamental role in gathering the physician community for Healthy Partners under Health Excel. Dr. Sedwitz is a strong advocate of physicians in leadership positions and fundamentally believes that medical decisions should always be made by a physician.

Thomas C. Sounhein, J.D., President, CEO

Thomas Sounhein is a licensed attorney who has over 20 years experience in the healthcare industry in both legal and management positions. He has served as Chief Executive Officer for several large healthcare companies. Mr. Sounhein is currently the Chief Executive Officer for all the entities under the XiMED umbrella including XiMED Medical Group, XiMED Hospitalists, XiMED IPA, XiMED Foundation, XiMED Wound Care, and the Scripps/XiMED Medical Center.  He is the President/CEO ofHealth Excel.

Richard Butcher, MD
In Memoriam:  May 16, 1939 ~ November 12, 2016 

Founding Member Dr. Richard Butcher was a family medicine doctor in San Diego, California and was affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Alvarado Hospital Medical Center and Paradise Valley Hospital. He received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College and was in practice for more than 20 years. He was one of 47 doctors at Alvarado Hospital Medical Center and one of the 13 at Paradise Valley Hospital specializing in Family Medicine.
